A (typical?) weekend

The day finally arrived. The day for Joel's Birthday. The day for Eel Pie! With lots of capitalization for excitement. It was everything we all hoped it would be...I think. We bought the eels live, we watched the fish men chop off their heads live, we then carried them home in a plastic bag live, and laid them out to be skinned - yes still live, even with the heads chopped off! Or at least they were in that akward stage closer to death than life, but the muscles just can't let go of the life so they keep squirming, and trying to escape death's cold grasp... oh wait, that was the pliers I used to skin them with! You can see the whole story in pictures here at Nate's picture site. I made my very first eel fillets. I think I did pretty decent. It was wicked crazy. Happy Birthday Joel!

Turns out some other randomly fabulous stuff happened this weekend too. Overshadowed by eel pie of course. I saw a full size dinosaur fossil, completely put together and roaring, in the front room of a house - on Lake Washington, yes. It was amazing. A few people had a few ideas of what you could do... instead of a Christmas tree, put lights on the dino's bones, and that can be the tree! Very festive.

There was a traditional campfire last thursday night with all the coolest people in puyallup there. You missed it.

Also... a tip... stay away from large amounts of wasabi.
